Asset-Based Teaching (45 Minutes)

Asset-based and strength-based teaching are student-centered approaches that focus on identifying and nurturing the unique strengths, talents, and skills of each student. These approaches emphasize building upon existing knowledge and abilities rather than focusing on what students don't know (i.e., deficit teaching). By creating a learning environment that values and utilizes the diverse assets of all students, teachers can empower them to reach their full potential.

We show up to work with our whole selves. For this presentation we will explore and acknowledge our identity markers that impact our pedagogy. We will take a brief exploration around the neuroscience behind engagement and learning, and the call for equity in our instruction, environment, and approach with students.
