Due to the nature of the job, teachers put themselves at risk for voice disorders at a much higher rate than most other professions. Teachers are estimated to be two to three times more likely than the general population to develop a voice disorder. (Martins et al., 2014) Over half of the teaching population reports experiencing a voice disorder at some point in their career. This includes chronic hoarseness or loss of voice, soreness or pain in the throat or neck, or chronic vocal fatigue. This presentation aims to educate the participants on various vocal disorders and vocal health concerns to watch out for. There will be a practical portion of the presentation in which attendees will learn and practice skills to help keep their voices healthy.
